Round 10 - Saturday May 16

Race 10 - Morphetville R9

1st - 2 Humma Humma W-$6.00

2nd - 6 Kabini Q-$45.30

Scr: 17-20

3 FIVE-OH (2nd)

$1123.60

2 points

2 THE JAMES GANG (5th)

$1180.80

1 point
Street Icon was never paying enough and Miss Mandito didn't yelp so Five-Oh held on but The James Gang salvaged a point when Hesi and Steve P bagged BBs in the last to take their aggregate to pass that of Five-Oh's for whom only Punter Pete scored. Steve P was an impressive Man of the Match with John MVP for the victors.

250.00 Punter Pete

45.00 Jack

393.40 Moose

273.00 Pete

19.00 The Crucible

51.00 Blind Squirrel

359.80 John

246.00 Hesi

3 THE TIGERS (7th)

2 MAXIMILLIONS (1st)

$878.40

Kabini tried hard for Georgy to pull off another last gasp defeat for The Tigers but couldn't hold out the winner who  was selected by Maxis Graeme with Max and Sharne also bagging BBs. Graeme who got off to a great start in the first took the Man of the Match title with Maurice edging Sharne for Tigers' MVP honours. Well played team - a much needed win and against the table leaders too ! No bonus points were earned.

321.80 Maurice

101.40 Heather

49.00 Jill

251.00 Max

202.40 Tom

338.00 Graeme

152.80 PJ

1 HALL OF FAME (4th)

$1471.60

1 point

4 COVID-Y (6th)

$1663.80

4 points

Zargos never got into it for HOF in the last so Covid-Y not only took the win but added bonus points for a team profit and a 4-1 margin secured when Ray bagged a BB to get up to beat Stevie. Hall of Fame can take consolation from a team profit bonus point claimed in the last when Robert and Leroy bagged BBs with Ian also chipping in. Hall of Fame's Jamison was Man of the Match with a nice tally while Gary edged Rocky for Covid-Y MVP honours. Some great scoring in this match.

455.00 Robert

488.40 Gary

528.60 Jamison

345.20 Ziggy

105.00 Ian

183.00 Porky

77.00 Stevie N

178.00 Ray

306.00 Midnight C

469.20 Rocky

0 ROLAND'S ROUGHNECKS (8th)

$150.00

0 points

5 MUCH TOO FAST* (3rd)

$807.80

4 (x 2 Joker play) = 8 points

Neither of the two possible winning hopes for Roland's Roughnecks emerged in the last and to rub salt into the wounds Ashoka bagged a BB on the Victorian visitor to nail Gordy and extend MTF's margin to 5-zip which added a further two points via their highly successful Joker play which reaped them 8 points in total. Probably the worst day ever for Roland's crew failing to score at all in the last half of the card. Gordy was their MVP with $66 while Captain Howie was Man of the Match for the victors.

19.00 Jen

103.40 Craig

0.00 Pam

215.40 Howie

19.00 Gee

196.00 Rex

46.00 Roland

154.00 Zac

66.00 Gordy

139.00 Ashoka

* Joker play

TABLE after ROUND 10

1st 29 Maximillions $12,477.40

2nd 25 Five-Oh $10,668.40*

3rd 24 Much Too Fast $11,299.20*

4th 17 Covid-Y $10,972.00

------------finals qual mark--------------

5th 16 Hall of Fame $10,863.40*

6th 14 James Gang $11,628.00

7th 10 The Tigers $10,579.00

8th 8 Roland's Roughnecks $8042.00

Despite losing today the Maxis remain on top though their lead was cut from 6 points to 4 with Five-Oh continuing on their winning way. Much Too Fast made excellent use of their Joker play and now find themselves just 5 points from the top and only 1 point behind Five-Oh. The day's big movers were Covid-Y who won a torrid encounter to leap up two places into a qualifying spot pushing down a place Hall of Fame and The James Gang who each lost but scored a bonus point apiece nevertheless. The Tigers scored a much needed win but remain 7 points from a qualifying spot and will need a very successful Joker play to get into the hunt while Roland's Roughnecks remain in the cellar after another loss.

'Nerve and Verve' gave us some decidedly nervous moments, but ultimately a particularly successful today for us 'Much Too Fast' as we take our winning run to 4-straight.
Well done to my "teamies" Craig, Rex, Zac and Ashoka, who are stepping up each week.
We've got the top 2 teams coming up within the next 3 Saturdays, the Maxis and the Five-Ohs, so plenty more still to do and the challenges ahead of us couldn't be stronger.
Hard luck today, Roland and the 'Roughies' ....the dice just didn't roll your way and if 'Nerve and Verve' had gotten up, and it so very nearly did so, it would have been a completely different match. As we all know, week in, week out, matches are being decided on very small margins. It doesn't pay to underestimate any opponent.

Thanks very much for another enthralling Saturday afternoon's entertainment today,  PJ. And well done on your Tigers' win. It was so very well deserved, after a rotten run of bad luck. As you said, against the Top Team, that is impressive.

See you next Saturday, folks. Keep safe and well everyone.

Awesome work COVID-Y team. A good day at the office in what was a great high scoring close match.  Thanks for today PJ  - certainly makes a raceday Saturday a lot of fun.

Hadnt been punting much over the lockdown but kinda glad I opened the purse strings on Trekking...one of my favourite horses.

Great price for Everest place-getter Trekking .... I'd have been very happy to get 5s .... 9s was awesome ! 😊

'Much Too Fast' task for the week :-

simple ...........Minimise the Maxis ! 😊

The 'Tigers' have given us the blueprint ..... now we just step up and apply more of the same to  an outfit with an impressive form background, but whose fortunes could now be on the wane.

Going for 5-straight we 'Much Too Fast' will be happy to ride our luck for at least one more week.

This Sunday we might be looking at a new leader on the leaderboard.

Just saying ! .... he says ...... as he puts the stirring pot down 😄and applies the marmite to the freshly-cooked toast. Big match ahead next Saturday.

The statisticians have been back through the record books, and today is not a happy stat sort of day.

The Roughneck's total of $150 (4 winners from 100 selections) appears to be a record for the lowest team tally in a 10 race card.  Nothing earned in the second half of the card.  I guess that's the nature of that approach - feast or famine!

Roughnecks could also set another record, if they haven't already - most consecutive weeks having the Joker played against them.  Their tally stands at 4 weeks at present and could reach 8 weeks by the end of this comp.  Will any of the four captains yet to play the Roughies in round 2, break that streak?

and one other unhappy stat that hasn't gone unnoticed by Hurricanes management is Hesi's 1/9 record!  I was never a fan of Sir Alex Ferguson but he was a master at moving on good players when they had passed their peak.

Ouch!

I prefer to think of Hesi as a big match player. Qualifying rounds don't motivate him. Finals do.

We've just got to get there now need luck GIF

May pay to ease off the pedal now John, last thing you want to do is take out the minor premiership and be facing us in the playoffs, a team with a substantially higher aggregate.

The JG probably cannot make the top 3, but definitely get into 4th, which is all we need, as we can beat any of the top 3 teams in a finals shootout.

I think I'm about 14th on aggregate, so form not too bad

In the next:

The Tigers can pull one back with Wirnpa, draw level with One Stryke and go into a 2-0 lead with Mishani Electra

Five-Oh can double their lead with Desert Man and go further ahead with Royal Witness while Bring It Home Pop helps
