ROUND 8 - Saturday September 28

Fine and a Good 4 at Hastings AND Rosehill on Wednesday.

We kick off the day with one of those tricky MAAT features they love to throw at us on these Premier racedays followed by the obligatory open sprint. A Rating 65 sprint follows before the gun 3yo boys and a brave girl contest the 3yo feature. A quick dash to Rosehill for a wide-open benchmark handicap where the big stables have plenty of form runners.

Then it is back to The Bay for the Arrowfield - with a substandard but tricky field - and then a return to Rosehill for a big, in-form field in another benchmark followed by the Group 2 Golden Pendant for the fairer sex and then the feature of the day with some major 3yos meeting in the Gr1 Golden Rose. That all important last race is a quality handicap with many familiar faces and a ton of chances. We all know how crucial that one can be.

A quirk of the draw sees a repeat of the big guns clash from last week when the top-of-the-table Blues will be tested again by The Manawatu Turbos eager for revenge for their Round 7 narrow defeat. Rich and Gary lock horns again but so do the two Magnificent top guns Roland and Ziggy with the Zigster out to overturn a Roland victory last time out.

Eight points may separate the Chiefs from the Swamp Foxes both both are coming off last start wins and are in great form. The serendipitous pair jammy Jamison and Porky have a juicy HTH in this one with very similar for & against records in what should be a close one while the respective Captains Black Caviar and Jack meet in another juicy battle.

The Kauri Kats enjoy a 4 place and 5 point advantage over their rivals The Magpies who they put to the sword last week with The Pies hoping to use the home track advantage in their favour this week to turn matters around. Ian and Dee - both Magnificent 7 stars and each having cracked the $2000 scored mark - meet in the big HTH match-up while Anita and Secret Squirrel will be hoping to turn the tables on their respective opponents Richie and Graeme who defeated them last week.

Just two points and less than $200 aggregate separate The Taranaki Ferdies and The Otago Highlanders who each need to show some sharp improvement on their performances in the first half of the Round Robin, when they meet this week. The Magnificent (and Serendipitous) Maurice is matched with the Unfortunate Lightning Blue in what may be a closer match than it looks on paper while the feature HTH sees blood brothers Howie and Geoff lock horns with the latter keen to pile more pain on the Unfortunate bro.

I wonder if we will see a Joker play to kick off the second half of the Round Robin series? Good luck everyone

Absolutely flown the gates here !
Even Robert can't keep up. 😊 If he gets moving, he can settle into the trail.
These ones below absolutely stood out to me. These will give Geoff somethin' to chase. 🙂
Hopefully see me out of 'The Unfortunate Five' and into 'The Magnificent Seven' !

R1)    1-12
R2)   2-8

Highlanders
lookin' good to kick the 2nd round off with a resounding victory over the Ferdies.
My prediction . . . 4-1 Highlanders.
Captain Craig, please can you replace any of mine that are scratched after 7am Saturday, as I'll be out after that time.

Many thanks for this fine comp, PJ.

Decided to take a trail this week Howard, as they are expecting gale force winds in Hastings, so need to get cover until the straight.
