ROUND 6 - Saturday September 14

On Wednesday it is Fine and Soft 7 at Riccarton and Showers and a Good 4 at Flemington.

We kick off with a R75 stayers where more than half the field have won at least one of their two most recent starts - good luck with that ! Then a Rating 65 mile with (a surprize here) only one Pitman runner then it is the NZ Cup Trial where a few might not be trying toooo hard to win it (just kiddin) and then one of those pesky open sprints down the Riccarton chute that are always hard to unpick and finally the feature of the day - the Canterbury Belle - with plenty of Northern raiders taking on the Mainland girls.

Then we board for Melbourne where we encounter plenty of Melbourne Cup hopefuls in the Archer over the Derby trip followed by a real head-scratcher as the older sprinters face off in the Black Caviar with a few smart types resuming. Plenty of familiar faces among the older girls in the Lets Elope before the Group 1 feature where a small but quality field do battle before the all-important final comp race where almost everything has a winning claim in the Bobbie Lewis Quality down the Flemington straight six. Should be a great finale.

Four points separate the sides in the feature match where new leaders - The Chiefs - will face reigning Champs The Ferdies. Magnificent Seven knight and Waikato top gun Gee seeks to break the Serendipitous PJ while out-of-form pair Hesi and Tom will see their opponents as the perfect vehicle for a form reversal.

The Blues and Highlanders are two canny outfits who have saved their Jokers for the final two rounds so expect them to both be likely to deploy. Newbie Rich is in great form but faces his stiffest test up against the only unbeaten competitor in the comp: Midnight Caller. Another fascinating clash is ex-Blue Howie up against former team-mate and Auk top gun Roland. Sure to be some trash talk in the LB v Pete encounter while Gordy and Rob with just one win apiece will each hope to show some quick improvement in their HTH.

The Magpies and Turbos meet in the Battle of the Norsewood and both sides have already expended their Joker arsenal so it will be down to the nitty-gritty for this one with The Turbos having a 5-point advantage going in. Key clash is the Squirrel Showdown between the Magnificent but Myopic one taking on his Secret but Serendipitous opponent. Who has the bigger nuts !!?? Jase and Gary have vastly different scores against them as they meet this week while crusty old veterans Ian and Ray must have met dozens of times and know each others strategies inside-out but who will prevail this time ?

The Swamp Foxes are also Joker-less until at least Round 8 but will face a spirited attack from the Kauri Kats who perplexingly are in last place but with the 3rd best aggregate and (worryingly for the Swampies) a Triple Joker tucked into their flea collars. I think that 3 of Kats featuring in the Unfortunate Five may have something to do with it. Dee has a tough task up against the Tasmanian Tiger who is in great form so far while fractious feline Jammo will be looking to take on top Tom Kat Rex in a ripper of a cat-fight.

Good luck everyone

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent

Best of luck to my Highlanders team-mates. I do believe we'll go close here.
Good luck to my rival tomorrow, the comp's top selector Roland. That'll be a challenge-and-a-half for me. Hope I've cottoned on to the right ones.
Craig, I'll be out most of tomorrow so please can you replace any scratchings for me. Many thanks, Craig.
And thank you too, PJ, for another fine PJ comp. These comps are superb entertainment . . . always have been. You're an absolute star.

Lets go Turbo's

Seems Belclare is tuned up and ready for the race in Seedney today...The 2 and 3 really hard to beat but pearl should be zooming home late....worth chucking in a multi at $3.60 Top 3. No longer a family link into her ownership but she is a lovely mare - chasing some Aussie black type.
