ROUND 5 - Saturday September 7

On Wednesday it is Fine and Good footing at both Hastings and Randwick so let us hope it stays that way.

We start the day at Hastings with what should be a capacity restricted stayers race with many many chances followed by a small but smart field for the Sir Colin Meads Trophy. The time-honoured Desert Trail follows with a host of in-form fillies and then a R75 sprint where nearly every runner could be considered a winning chance. The first Kiwi Group 1 - the Tarzino Trophy - wraps up our NZ leg (good luck Gary) and the it is all aboard for Sydney.

Three interesting Group contests which follow will require some careful selections with some real class animals on display, before we dash down to The Valley for a ripper field in the 1000m Moir -  what a spectacle that will be with the trio of 3yos enjoying a great pull in the weights ! Then it is back to Randwick for the most important race - comp wise - and probably the hardest to work out as a wide-open field contest a hugely competitive Benchmark 78 sprint. Get that one right and you and your team may have secured the big win !

The big clash of the day sees the former leaders The Auckland Blues take on the 5th-placed Hawkes Bay Magpies, a mere two points adrift of the Jaffas. Captains Ian and Pete are their teams top scorers but will face tough matches against Roland and Richie respectively. The Magpies may be considering a Triple Joker play against the Auks who might wish to keep their Joker powder dry for The Turbos or the Highlanders.

A single point and a single place separates the 3rd-placed Swamp Foxes and 4th-placed Turbos with the latter holding a better aggregate by $267. The Swampies have a regular Joker up their sleeves but have to choose between the Ferdies, Kauri Kats or this weeks opponents for their choice of deployment - not an easy decision. Magnificent Seven top dog Zig faces the rather serendipitous and unbeaten Tassie Tiger in the feature HTH while regular gun tipsters Our Maizcay and Black Caviar have the astonishing record of just a solitary HTH win between them after a collective 8 matches so far. Each will be super keen to end this run of bad form.

New leaders The Ferdies are challenged by The Highlanders who curiously find themselves one spot shy of the cellar despite winning last week (!?). Neither side has deployed a Joker of any description with just 3 rounds remaining in which to brandish two of them ! What chances one or both decide to get in the Joker mood this week ? PJ will find his serendipitous progress so far, sorely tested by Magnificent Seven knight Craig while another Magnificent Seven form ace - Geoff - will have his work cut out against the unbeaten Midnight Caller.

Lastly, The Chiefs who won last week and were ignominiously rewarded with re-housing in the cellar take on a Kauri Kats outfit - top comp aggregate scorers to date - just one point and two places above them. The Chiefs have the option of either Joker to play while The Kats may be eyeing up a Regular Joker deployment. A feisty clash looks assured ! In a clash of the veterans Waikato Captain Jack takes on Top Kat tom Graeme while a couple of other high scorers - Gee and Captain Sharne - also meet in a juicy HTH. Finally, no player has taken more hits than Rex after 4 rounds but does he get some sort of reprieve against a slow-starting Tom this week or will there be a turny-around of form to have Rex reaching for the painkillers again ?

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent

Please post on time. Let's have some fun and note the closing time...

You are being usurped Robert, by Howie and Rich (LFV), better check the sun comes up tomorrow

Yes I know, I will have to pick my game up, or I will be in danger of being tossed out of the competition for late posting of my selections.

Looks like the reigning champs have come out swinging and gone to the lead already PJ.

Trying some Pride of Jenni  tactics by the look of it ? Hesi would of noted how that went last week as the Highlanders close in this week .😎

For the moment you 5 Ferdie lads could be strumming along to a team song I'll put on Craigs Music Fav's thread 😉 The Ferdies Anthem lol. 😁

Delayed posting at the moment as Jodie was taken to hospital last night with suspected food poisoning. Waited 4 hours to be attended to but came home rather than wait as she had stopped vomiting and felt a little better. Looking after her today and trying to sort selections so probably up tomorrow.

All good, Rich. Look after that girl. I had salmonella poisoning a few months back and it nearly ended me so do not worry about the comp.
