ROUND 2 - Saturday August 17

(A word to Captains. Probably a good idea to start a team PM thread if you have not already done so to remind everyone of closing times and to post ON TIME. You need to make your changes and corrections by 11.10am. A reminder not to edit posts after posting. Corrections and scratching subs need to be in a new post)

Round One seemed to shake out a few cobwebs for most (well maybe not The Ferdies!) so everyone should be primed up for Round 2 where we visit the Winter-less North where a Good track can be anticipated and Caulfield where the track is currently Good but rain forecasted for Friday & Saturday.

We start the day with a couple of small R75 contests at Ruakaka to give you a chance to get an early winner or two then we nip over to Melbourne for a tricky Benchmark sprint. Then back to Northland for an open sprint, the 3yo feature and a chance of a good divvy in the R65 sprint.

We finish the card with 4 stakes races from Caulfield with a ton of horses resuming versus those with Winter wet track form - good luck with that lot ! Only one race beyond 1400m this week and that is a mile so it is a sprint-fest.

The big clash of the day is sure to be the War of Wellsford where two teams coming off first round wins - the Auckland Blues and Northland Kauri Kats - meet head-on. Captains Pete and Sharne lock horns as do newbies Rich and Dee. Should be some fine tussles.

The Magpies who made a mess of their first round opponents without hitting top gear and lead the table take on a Highlanders outfit who posted the 3rd best Round 1 aggregate but came away without a point. This match features nearly half of the Magnificent Seven so expect some fireworks.

Just $30 separated the aggregates of Waikato Chiefs and The Swamp Foxes last week so I would expect the Battle of Morrinsville to be a very close affair. Punter Pete and Black Caviar have their work cut out taking on the two top scorers from last week - Gee and Steve P.

Lastly, The Ferdies will look for the rest button after an uncharacteristic miserable first-up effort when they take on the Manawatu Turbos with both sides smarting from defeats last week as they meet in the Cellar Dwellers showdown. Some spicy match-ups in that one. Who will de adrift at the foot of the table come Saturday night ??

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent

Please post on time. Let's have some fun and note the closing time...

MAGPIES (1st) vs HIGHLANDERS (6th)

Not looking good for my Highland laddies PJ 🙄.  The mighty Magpies all thundering into the Winners circle  last week with a great swoop.🏇

Therefore have a great ''Team aAnthem for Jase, Ian ,SS, Rich and Steve that fits that great start in the Comp,  compliments of the late great Errol Brown MBE and his great group, for the Magpies this week.

Will pop it on Captain Craigs Music fav's .

We went down only in the shadows of the post first-up last week, and will be that much fitter with this extra week to prepare.
Captain Craig who found me a scratching replacement winner last week . . . please can you do the honours again this week ? Thanks.

Good luck to my opponent Jason. Hope you find a winner or two. Two ? Ok, I exaggerate. 🙂 One only will make me happiest.

Many thanks, PJ.

$220k race for 3yos on a likely good track and only 6 starters.
